An eastern Kentucky man scored a major lottery prize looking to earn some extra gas money.
The Pikeville man, who officials said wanted to remain anonymous, stopped by the Food City on Cassidy Boulevard for gas ahead of a long car trip.
He said he plays Kentucky Lottery games often looking to score some extra cash.
“Lots of times I’ve won $100 or $200,” the man said. “I like to take a chance and maybe earn some gas money.”

Well, nothing could have prepared him for just how much he had won.
After buying a $30 zoe Jackpot scratch-off ticket, he scratched the ticket and matched the number 27. He then revealed the game’s $3 million top prize below.
He had to have the ticket scanned twice to make sure it was real.
Officials said the man drove to the lottery’s headquarters on Feb. 8 and that’s when the win really sank in.
“This morning, sometime, I began to believe it,” he said.
The Pike County man chose to take the lump sum cash payment of $2,040,000 and received a check for nearly $1.5 million after taxes.
He and his family plan to pay off debt with their winnings.
Food City in Pikeville will receive $20,400 for selling the winning ticket.
A healthy Owsley County requires great community news.
