The White House is Looking at Fort Knox

February 27, 2025

On February 23, 2025, President Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk will be looking at Fort Knox to make sure the gold is still in the depository despite Treasure Secretary Scott Bessent saying a yearly audit verifies the gold, estimated as 147.3 million ounces, is there and has been accounted for.

Fort Knox was established during World War I and was originally called "Camp Knox". It became an artillery training center and made a permanent installation in 1932. The gold arrived at Fort Knox in 1937. The bullion depository has been protected there ever since along with the Army's human resources, acting as a command center.

Fort Knox, that stretches 109,000 acres in Kentucky, has been  known as the "Home of Cavalry and Armor" for almost 80 years after World War II. It also houses the Army ROTC/JROTC Command Center. It hosts the largest ROTC/JROTC summer training event each year, which is a very youth and leadership invested school program throughout high schools and colleges in the Commonwealth.

It continues to be a heavily guarded facility that was built in 1936, using 16,000 cubic feet of granite, 4,200 cubic yards of concrete, 750 tons of reinforcing steel, and 670 tons of structural steel.

The vault is very rarely open beyond the yearly inspections. It is considered one of the safest and secure locations in the world.
