“My daddy shoots the turkey. Then he digs all the bones out of it. After that, he roasts it on the grill for about 1 hour. When it gets done, he cuts all the feathers off and says our prayers. Mommy puts salt and a little bit of sugar on it. I like to eat it with tomato sauce. For dessert I get to have turkey pie!”

“I’m guessing that papaw buys the turkey because Mamaw doesn’t spend her money. She only buys stuff for me and sissy. Papaw buys the foods I guess he gets the turkey. He normally goes to Save A lot, I think. Mamaw unwraps it and puts butter on it, I think. She turns the oven on medium and cooks it for 5 to 10 minutes. The turkey is done when we hear the oven beeping. Mommy, Daddy and papaw just sit on the couch while we are waiting. Well, most of the time mommy runs around making sure everything is perfect. I don’t even like the turkey. Sissy only eats the bread, and I only eat the ham off it. For dessert, Mamaw, sissy, and me cook muffins.”

“Mommy gets the turkey from Walmart. It’s a big one. I’d say it weighs 50 pounds or more. The first thing she does is bath it in the sink. Then she cuts it up and puts salt and barbeque on it. But I don’t like the barbeque on it. She cooks the turkey on about 8 degrees for 1 hour. We know its done when we hear a ding-dong. We like to eat mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese with it. For dessert we have banana pudding and ice-cream.”

He gets it about 500 degrees and then he puts the turkey in it for about an hour. Mommy decorates with Thanksgiving decorations outside and inside while Daddy cooks. He tells me when the turkey is done and then he cuts it up and puts it on my plate. I like hot sauce on it. I eat mashed potatoes and macaroni salad with it. Daddy fixes the mashed potatoes. Mommy fixes chocolate cake and ice-cream cake.”

I know when the turkey is done because she yells, “It’s DONE!” I like to eat ketchup, corn, mashed potatoes and actually chicken with it. For dessert we eat strawberries.”
