Owsley County Man Charged with Rape and Sodomy

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, Owsley County Resident and former Owsley County High School Assistant Coach,  Dontarius Pittman, was arrested and charged with third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy after police say he had a sexual relationship with a student.

Officials with the Owsley County School District said the following concerning Pittman, "The Owsley County School District is aware of a former assistant basketball coach being investigated for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The allegations are being investigated by the Kentucky State Police, and they have the district’s full cooperation."

According to the Owsley County School District, Pittman was never a teacher or a full-time employee. He was only an assistant coach. 

According to Kentucky State Police who is handling the investigation, the victim told them the sexual encounter happened at approximately 8 p.m. on June 18, 2025 at a boat ramp in Owsley County.

When KSP found Pittman, they asked him if he had a sexual encounter with a student, Pittman admitted to the claims.

Pittman was then arrested, charged 3rd degree rape and 3rd degree sodomy. He was booked at the Three Forks Regional Jail.
